Zipp Service Course SL Seatpost Review

Zipp Service Course SL Seatpost

  • Diameter: 27.2 – 31.6 mm
  • Length: 330 mm
  • Offset: 0 – 20 mm

By using a single piece, forged head and shaft instead of bonding separate units, Zipp was able to make its Service Course SL Seatpost even more Super Light. The titanium bolts also contribute to weight loss, and the fact that they’re easily reached from below means that you can simply adjust your saddle position once it’s installed. The clamps themselves feature a low profile which provides more clearance and a wider range of fore/aft adjustment.

Zipp’s innovative, low-profile clamp provides a wide range of adjustments to both angle and for-and-aft position. This adjustment range makes the Service Course Seatpost suitable to a wider range of riders and lets you dial your fit and feel. That isn’t the only feature that sets the Service Course Seatpost apart, however. Zipp engineers paid special attention to the length of the clamp assembly. On the lower portion, it’s designed to be a bit longer than what you might see on other seatposts. Essentially, this is to support the saddle rails if you favor to ride at the rearward position. And in this day and age of super-light rails, we view any extra insurance against damage as a welcomed friend. For this iteration of the Service Course, the seatpost forgoes carbon fiber in favor of a one-piece, 3D forged design. If you pay close attention to the Grand Tours, you’ll notice that this is a reoccurring trend in the peloton. The reason is simple. For the cost of a few grams, the seatpost becomes stiffer, stronger, and more comfortable that its carbon fiber counterparts. In fact, we find that road vibration is better dispersed, while power is better conserved during seated exertions.

Zipp Service Course SL-70 Ergo Handlebar Review

Zipp Service Course SL-70 Ergo Handlebar

  • Material: proprietory ZTL-71 alloy
  • Diameter: 31.8 mm
  • Drop: 128 mm
  • Reach: 70 mm
  • Width: [center-center] 38 mm, 40 mm, 42 mm, 44 mm

Regardless of its renowned homage to carbon, Zipp realizes that aluminum is far from an outdated material. Whether you prefer it for peace of mind in the heat of the sprint or find the slight weight difference an easy way to keep your ultra-light bike above legal weight limits for your Cat 1 debut, the Zipp Service Course SL Ergo Handlebar showcases the best of aluminum’s qualities — strength, low weight, and relatively low cost. The Zipp SL Ergo handlebars are the replacement for the Zipp CSL bars. They were designed with Zipp’s SSR (Super Short Reach) dimensions — a 70mm reach means that it is easier for riders with shorter arms and smaller hands to reach the shifters while in the drops. These dimensions are the same as the SL-70 — the primary difference is that the tops of the SL Ergo bars have been sculpted flat to provide a substantial platform for your hands during long climbs. The cables tuck nicely underneath. The drop angle of the bars is only 20 degrees. This allows you to position your levers in the ‘high-and-Belgian’ style or in the flat-top neo-pro style without having to rotate your bars skyward. The drops have a 2 degree outward bend for more wrist comfort, which also minimizes bruised forearms while sprinting. The Zipp Service Course SL Ergo Handlebars are available in 2cm increments from 38cm-44cm measured center to center, and each pair of bars fits a 31. 8mm stem. They come in two colors: Polished Black, a high gloss finish with white logos, or Beyond Black, a matte black with etched logos for a stealthy look.
